Story Recs: Genuinely Funny

There’s nothing quite like a story that has you laughing every step of the way, no matter the cost to your delicate jawline. Whether it’s parody, bordering on the absurd, or intelligently witty, we at the Directory can’t help but cheer at the sight. While some make it look almost effortless, it is by no means easy. As far as we’re concerned, the two undisputed Queens of Comedy in our little fandom are MERIDIAN and KJWRIT. Their unique brands of humor is peppered throughout each and every tale, making it impossible for us to choose just the one, or two, or even three of their rollicking stories. Take our word for it, all their stories are full of comedy gold, however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t more genuinely amusing stories out there for your reading pleasure! Enjoy what we enjoy, and feel free to chime in using the comment section on the stories that left you laughing out loud.

Mistaken Identity by plaguemysoul

Best friends Sookie and Tara do something they never would have ordinarily done, in going to vampire bar Fangtasia. But what happens when Sookie is mistaken for a fangbanger by none other than vampire Eric Northman himself, man-gropes him, and meanwhile captures the grumpy and troubled vampires interest? Mostly silliness, craziness and fun. Smutty/Humour. E/S, OOC, rated M, -WIP-

From the short narrative above we weren’t expecting much, fearing that it would possibly be a little juvenile, but how wrong we were! This story had us laughing out loud, sometimes embarrassingly so, and in hysterics many times. Silliness is probably the best description for this tale although there is plenty of thoughtfulness to be found too. The Eric and Sookie dynamic is certainly unique as they stumble and fall through Relationship Issues 101. Eric is uncharacteristically grumpy, with reason, where Sookie is his ever-perky counterpart, and both a little ill-equipped to be in a relationship without any prior experience. There’s plenty of stumbling and falling, some intentional, some not, but they make it work while dealing with vampire cats, men in sparkly thongs, and the voices in their heads.

Hey, they may be human but they're still our Eric and Sookie!

Eric the Viking or The Man of my Dreams by Thyra10

Sookie is reading one of her favorite romances, dreaming about the hero in her book, when suddenly he is in the room. All Human. One-shot. Humor. E/S, AH, One-shot, rated M, -COMPLETE-

This story is both a hilarious romp and a glass of cold water to the face. Voracious romance novel aficionado Sookie is suddenly faced with her dream Viking lover. Is he as mouth-watering and masculine as she always knew he would be? Does he always say the right words to turn her into a puddle on the spot? Does he hit every right spot without even being told where they are? Would you want to know the truth or float along in blissful fantasy? Click if you dare… Oh My…

Need we say more…

Switched by My Secret O

This story takes place near the end of Living Dead in Dallas (book 2). Instead of the maenad’s bloody massacre, she finds Sookie and Eric fighting their attraction and gives them a unique kind of madness. E/S, rated M, -COMPLETE-

What if the encounter with the Maenad ended a bit differently and Sookie found herself in Eric’s body, and vice versa?  Imagine Eric getting his first period, or Sookie trying to imitate the infamous Viking’s swagger and fangbanging lifestyle. Hilarity ensues with the trials of the two attempting to fool everyone while they attempt to return themselves to their proper bodies. Though Eric does not fail to enjoy the bountiful presence that is now his chest, they do, however, learn what life is truly like for the other, to change all their perceptions of one another, and ultimately, it brings them a deeper understanding of the other.  Join their journey in discovering how to break up the madness and the situations they must deal with in order to survive the Supernatural world, the dreaded Queen of Louisiana’s schemes, and Bill’s insistent pursuit of Sookie. Or is it Eric?

Everything and More a Thanksgiving Fixin’s Outtake by hisviks

“I know you; there are two Sookie Stackhouse’s. One who still clings to the idea that she’s merely human and the other who’s coming to grips with the fact that you are better than that.” – Eric Northman.

So what would happen when one angry fairy was knocking on the back door of Fangtasia while a seemingly human and heavily pregnant version of her is preparing for an elaborate Thanksgiving feast?

A multi-chapter extension from one of the Thanksgiving Fixin’s shorts. E/S, OOC, rated M, -COMPLETE-

Ever wondered what happened to that feisty Faery Sookie as the seasons of True Blood dragged on? In hisviks’ “Everything and More” Eric not only has to deal with her, but the very stupid pregnant shell she left behind, finally allowing us to make sense of the sinking ship known as Season 7. Our favorite characters band together for absurd events so wildly entertaining that anything left over from the debacle of that finale is pleasantly glamoured from our minds (hisviks had to work with canon she got after all).

As Fairy Sookie and Human Sookie come to terms with one another, pandemonium abounds with two “miraculous” pregnancies along with a passel of very funny hybrid offspring complete with fairy powers that make even Pam appear well-behaved (honestly, if the show can make stuff up at random, then who can begrudge a fan fic writer the same liberties?). As much as Eric and Sookie are central to this, it’s Pam whose talent for deadpan is captured perfectly and Niall who steal the show with their burgeoning romance marked by riotous spaghetti sexcapades that wreak havoc with the plumbing…and our minds (Warning: you’ll never look at the pasta dish the same again).
From a small kernel, this one-shot grew to more, much more, including a delightful set of outtakes that’ll have tears running down your cheeks for moments of tenderness, but mostly from sheer laughter.

One of the funniest I think is Return of the Stackhouse Six by I think Miral. It takes a little while to get into but Eric & Jason pretending to be a gay couple and giving interior design advice in Hotshot cracks me up everytime. All human and complete.

I would like to recommend All In, by kjwrit, its a big story and has a lot going on, not just humour, but its rare that you dont get a smile each chapter and there are lots of belly laugh moments too. It would easily be in my top 3 for humour.

And even though its unfinished, I would still include A Smarter Sookie, even if its only for the Pam clucks like a chicken scene, which is genius.

I love ANYTHING by Thyra10! My favorite of hers though is I Shot the Sheriff followed by Sookie the Shieldmaiden.
My all time favorite from My Secret O though is Switched! LOVE that story. It’s one of the few I’ll go back and read and read and reread again and again and again.
I do agree about Meridian and kjwrit! They both make me laugh nearly every chapter! Ahem….Slippy Slappy Seal Sex definitely needed brain bleach (3rd chapter :D)
kjwrit’s The Debt actually makes me snort, lol.

I’m rereading Tasting Sin by Leia1912 and it is laugh out loud hilarious and I just recently reread Pretty Kitty by ficlit78 another great one.
My all time fav is kjwrit. She is the queen of comedy! I can’t pick which story of hers is the funniest, they are all pretty darn awesome to me.
Thanks for the great story suggestions!
