We have to look after the little ones too!

[Source: unknown]

The past 21 days have been all about giving, whether it be to, from, or back in this Advent calendar. Day 22 however, marks a slight detour where we’d like to ask you, the lovely readers, for a little help by giving something back instead.

We like Santa right? He’s the one that brings us all the presents but it almost makes us forget that  it’s Santa’s little helpers that make it all possible in the end. Many writers stand, rightfully so, in accolades and praise of their work and as nice as that is we sometimes forget to look at those that make it all happen, specifically the betas, banner makers, sounding boards, trusted friends, etc. behind the scenes. Sometimes they get a mention but clearly don’t get the credit they deserve considering the amount of work they put in. They’re a modest bunch, the first to claim they’re not the writer and that they’d produce the same work without them. We know better, these are the ones that keep us going and sane and whenever we do thank them for their input it always seems paltry in comparison.

So today we won’t be gifting anything to you but instead are asking you to help thank all the behind the scenes people who keep us going. msbuffy, sephrenia, and kleannhouse are just a few of many who helped get the gift stories you’ve been enjoying so far in shipshape order. Here at the Directory we’re often aided by allisonactually, ciasteczko, 26penwv and a few others when we’re stumped with the Story Locator requests. These inputs are absolutely invaluable to us. We’d list them all but we’d probably run out of space and still forget most. Instead, please join us in the comment section and thank all those little helpers that keep us writers going year round whether it be here at the Directory or elsewhere!

…and if you haven’t gotten round to getting that little helper of yours a Christmas present yet, (shame on you!) may we suggest:

Only for the Best of the Best

They’re not even honorary members, no they damn well founded the force…

[Find it here for $7.95*]

When you still don’t F*cking Comprehend

If your little helper is particularly fond of a swear word or two and you’ve been at the receiving end of them often enough why not get them this…

Find it here for $16.90*

Or by msbuffy’s suggestion, don’t bother leaving that plate of cookies out for Santa, give ‘em to your little helpers instead!

Gingerbread Vampires 1

…and if you come across one with brown bangs make sure to follow Pam’s example and eviscerate its head, you know just to be sure…

Now go ahead and thank those elves that keep the magic going all year round below!

I laughed out loud at the t-shirt!

Thanks to Miss Buffy, Sephrenia and everyone else who does such an awesome job behind the scenes here at the directory!

Thanks also to the writers. If it weren’t for them we wouldn’t have this directory in the first place and I wouldn’t have met most of you.

A extra special thanks to those who wrote stories for this Advent Calendar; it wouldn’t have been the same without you.

Thank you, TJ… You’re a very busy lady who does plenty of work in her rite for the fandom! You deserve a great deal of credit, too!

I’ll go right along with you and thank all the writers! If it weren’t for all of you, there would be no directory, hell, there wouldn’t be a fandom!

To everyone who had a part in the creation of the Advent Calendar, many thanks for the hours of enjoyment it’s brought! No matter what part you played, each role was a vital one, and I’m so grateful to all of you. This was a great idea for so many reasons, if not just for that gingerbread man with the fangs!

Merry Christmas one & all! Happy New Year, too! 🙂

Thanks to the betas that make the stories shine, thanks to the readers that not only help us here, but also support all the writers. I know that as readers, your input as well as support are invaluable to new and veteran writers! If you’re like me and love to support new writers in their work, take the time to let them know-you may be the reason they have to write another chapter! Check out the writers in the directory and leave a review of their body of work on their profile. It makes me wonder if we need to add a subset to the directory for betas. I’m sure hisviks will strangle me for that suggestion. 😉

*gets out the rope and begins strangling procedure*

Finding a beta that suits you isn’t as simple as consulting a list and picking one you fancy since they all provide different things, it’s why in the beginning of the Directory we decided not to include a subset for fear that they’d be over-asked unnecessarily. You’re much better off establishing a relationship with someone when they’re still a reader of yours and getting to know their work for others as the basis of a beautiful beta friendship. Well, at least I think so and as you well know my word is law in this dictatorship 😉

LMAO! True ‘dat! I am so buying “The Fucking Rules of Grammar.” Definitely beats anything I learned in English class, and it makes it all the better when I have to say this is why you need this word HERE! The Fucking Rules say so! LOL! I love it!

If it was possible you all would get a Askars of your own but because I don’t know how to clone and I’m sure it just wouldn’t be the same. Each and everyone of you I give you thanks, thank you for all you do. All of you are so amazing, and as just a lowly reader, I am in awe of everyone of you.THANK YOU.

There is no such thing as a lowly reader! Without you we wouldn’t be writing, you justify the hours spent on something. Sharing your enthusiasm over the produced works is the thing that will keep us going in those tough moments. Don’t underestimate what you can mean to us all, no matter how small the contribution. 🙂

All of you rock! You take time out of your day to enthrall us readers, and in my book that makes you amazing! I can’t express how many times just stepping out of real life for a few moments to read one of your amazing stories has helped! Being a stay at home mommy, but 4 months of the year pretty ugh a single mommy due to husbands work schedule, those precious moments at night, when all is quiet, allowing myself to do the one thing I love, read, keeps me sane! You all give me an opportunity to just enjoy! All I can say is keep em coming guys! You all are different, yet fantastic in your own writing styles and I love it! Your readers are blessed to have such creative minds sharing with us! We send you much gratitude!

“Generous” and “invaluable” are the two words I think of when I think of Sephrenia and Kleannhouse. I love these ladies as friends and as “co-workers” in my writing world.

I know that other writers feel the same way about the betas and artists who help them.

But let me tell you a little about my team (because they are the ones I know most about). I’ll never forget how honored I was when Sephrenia first contacted me to offer to make a banner for me. It was for Come Back to Me. Not an artist myself, I was amazed that someone so gifted would offer. The next thing I knew, she was making character banners for the people that inspired her in my stories. Now I cannot imagine my stories without her art! I ask for soooo much from her nowadays, but the fulfillment of my requests always appear in my inbox before I need them (when I give Seph the proper notice–LOL). She takes the “challenge” with me on every story I write, creating banners for stories, characters, and sometimes even chapters based on just a short description on my part. I’ve never been disappointed in her work!

I’ll also never forget the first time I asked Kleannhouse for her help. As a writing teacher and grammar nazi myself, I had never thought that I would need one, but I found myself struggling to proofread my story “Gift Horse” when I needed to turn it in for a story exchange. The story was drafted, but I knew that it wasn’t as polished as I wanted it to be. I was having migraines at that point, and it was hard for me to concentrate. I asked Kleannhouse who had already become a good friend in the fanbase to look the story over so that I wouldn’t give a “broken” gift to my exchange partner. She did it last-minute with the kind of speed and generosity that I sometimes take for granted because she’s never let me down. And–even better–she encouraged me to do more by offering suggestions that I might not have thought of. Thus, “Gift Horse” (which I’d intended to be a one-shot) became the Gift Horse series.

    Yep “generous” and “invaluable.”

I would trade all of their work for me as long as I know they are still my friends. It is their friendship and support which I love the most about them. Both of them have also had to deal with drama in their work for others and this fan base too! And yet–they remain generous. They are amazing!

Thanks to all of the people who work behind the scenes to make writers’ work better than it would have been otherwise.

Thanks to everyone who puts together this site And thanks to the one who put together this advent calendar and–specifically–this entry so that we can share the love with those who are so valuable!

I came into the fanfic world four short years ago and I’ve been in love ever since 🙂 I have all the wonderful writers, readers, betas, and artists to thank for that. I never would’ve gotten the nerve to take the plunge into writing myself if it wasn’t for all of you! And writing has been a life saving for me. The overwhelming support I’ve had since joining wordpress still blows my mind! Everyone in this fandom is the bomb!!

A huge thank you to all the other writers out there and the hours upon hours of enjoyment you have given me. To the wonderful betas who work so hard to help their writers put out grammar perfect chapters and the amazing artist who make the fics even more enjoyable with the great banners and fanart they create!

To those who started and continue to gift us with this wonderful directory, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! It has made our fandom all the better!

I hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful holiday season no matter what you celebrate. Love to you all!! 💓

Today’s entry on the advent calendar is wonderful! It isn’t a new story, but it is a reminder that we need to thank the people behind the scenes who beta and make art for the authors in our fan base. Check it out and leave your love to these generous people if you haven’t already!

I stumbled upon this world of fan fiction about 4 years ago, looking for something that would satisfy what True Blood had left me wanting, more Eric and Sookie! I certainly wasn’t expecting much in terms of quality, so you can imagine my surprise when I came upon story after story by all of these brilliant, unpublished writers. I hadn’t a clue about betas and banner makers but soon came to realize what an integral part they play in many stories.
I am thankful to all of you talented people who do all of this hard work behind the scenes with little recognitionI am in awe of you all. Thank you for helping to bring my otp to life:)
    Happy holidays everyone!

now why did it do that? let me finish my thought……and what imagination! I know all you ladies do this out of the goodness of your hearts and I’m in awe that you share your talents with us gratis. What more could a book junkie ask for? So please, let me add to the accolades and offer my humble praise –you ladies rock! You’ve made some very hard times palatable; you’ve opened up vistas and brought me to tears time and again. While the SVM/TB worlds have come to a close, I hope that there was enough fodder there to fire imaginations for years to come!
Ladies –have a wonderful holiday and thank you so much for the year-round gifts of your writing!

Thanks to all the wonderful members of this fandom. Some of us may be a bit obsessed about a certain “large and in-charge” viking vampire, but no one is perfect.
The writers, what can you say about people who create stories from their own imagination and then share them with all of us.. And the betas and pre-readers who are invaluable to the writers they support, and of course the ladies who create the imaginative banners that are feasts for the eyes. A few people know that I found the world of fan fiction because of a story that posted on Stephen Moyer’s blog and then lined to (yes, I confess, at the beginning I was an FOB)..but I saw the light and came over from the darkside.
I hope everyone here has a wonderful hoiday (whatever you celebrate) and a joyous New Year.

    What a lovely idea! 😀
I don’t have a beta, but what I have is lovely readers who review very generously, so a big thank you to all of them for sticking with me (even when I’m slow to update!) Especially w.s.caer (who spots my mistakes now and then, thank you! and invited me to AO3 so I have a back up account) and those readers I’ve had great discussions with over last few years — VAlady, Emma, Duckbutt, cros, GypsyNight, fffbone, lori p, Andrea, RedJane, YikesYahooYum, treewitch, Janarden, Sonia and Cari, and anyone else I’ve forgotten — it’s been lovely talking to y’all.
Thanks to the ladies of amazonia who dissected the last book so well that I didn’t need to read it, and who first pointed me at the world of SVM/TB fanfiction, without which I would never have had all this fun reading and writing it. 😀
Thanks to the team at Area5BloodyPen for running their awesome competitions this year, and padfoot and everyone who worked on the YouWantBloodAwards, and Queen of Area Five and everyone who got involved in the svmtbficexchange — I didn’t participate, but I loved reading the entries.
Thanks to hisviks and all the ladies at fangbangersanonymous for everything they do to keep us all in touch, and for this lovely advent calender — it was a privilege to be asked to write a gift. 😀
And a big thanks to all the banner-makers, beta-readers, reviewers and, last but by no means least, all the writers who give of their time and share their work with us all. This is a great fandom to be involved in because of the generosity of the people in it.
Have a wonderful holiday everybody. 😀

To all of you who have worked to create this wonderful space, as well as this wonderful Advent calendar- a huge thank you! I’m sure I can’t even imagine the amount of time and energy it takes to do this work. The calendar was such a fabulous treat to look forward. So many great stories, so many great laughs. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks and praise are given to all the amazing ladies who give give and give again, so I, and others like me, can get my Eric / Sookie fix. I am so very grateful to each and everyone of you. You all go above and beyond, and if I can shake some brain cells to remember a story or an author, to enable someone to re-read your talent, it’s a small price to pay. I hope that this dwindling fandom can continue but I feel privileged to have read everything I have already.
Thank you , thank you, thank you. 💋❤️❤️💋🎄🎄
