Story Recs: You Don’t Choose Your Family

 

Orphaned and ‘unseen’ by her Faery relatives, Sookie isn’t one with a large family, and thankfully, there are the loveable Gran and idiotic Jason to fill some of that void. Though, in some cases, Sookie’s biological family isn’t all they promise to be, and the one she carves for herself through long and loyal friends or in the midst of a variety of Supernaturals, one of whom is, of course, always Eric, may mean just as much, if not more, than the one she was born into. So, during those moments when you’ve had quite enough of your own family, how about living vicariously through Sookie? We can’t help but mention EricIzMine’s “Mutli-verse”, who, without a doubt, lifted the ensemble casts of SVM into a warm bath of family with some of the most impressively written children in the fandom! If all you have time for is a quick dip in and out, may we suggest hisviks’ often hilarious “Thanksgiving Fixin’s” to put you just in the right mood in between all those family feuds and, just remember, they’ll all be gone by morning, but these stories won’t! Story Recs: Crazy Science

 

We love it when the SVM/TB realm goes a little Frankenstein. Toss in a lab coat or two, some bubbling green goo, and watch all the excitement happen! In all seriousness though, our fandom knows of many great stories that play with the notions and capabilities of science in a way that makes ‘magick’ look decidedly lame and offers us a rather unique set of Erics and Sookies. We can’t help but to give a nod to previously-reviewed stories such as idream3223’s “Faux” and the uber-intelligent science buff that is Sookie in elfchef’s “Twisted & Turned.”*

It isn’t hard to imagine our enigmatic duo doing exceptionally well in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, be it in the past or now, the Viking has a bit of a fan club, after all. Kjwrit’s much loved “All In” (if you haven’t read it by some miracle, this is clearly your sign to do so now) prompted us to seek out more recommendations in and around tinsel town. It’s safe to say we found quite a bounty and guess what, it’s not all all-human after all, but Happily Ever Afters certainly are abound.

Story Recs: Dr. Who? Dr. Ludwig, Of Course!

The little doctor, species still unknown, might be a tad abrasive and not much of a Fan of the Fang beyond their useful blood, but there’s no denying she’s an interesting character whenever she ‘pops’ into some of our favorite fanfics, her unapologetic demeanor often putting Pam to shame. While others might simply tolerate her for her healing skills, we readers can’t help but laugh with delight at her appearance and in doing so, she provides for an interesting insert, whether it be as Sookie’s mentor, a money greedy therapist, or the defining factor that brings together Eric and Sookie. Enjoy and be sure to let us know about your favorites with a special place for the one and only doctor!

There’s nothing quite like a story that has you laughing every step of the way, no matter the cost to your delicate jawline. Whether it’s parody, bordering on the absurd, or intelligently witty, we at the Directory can’t help but cheer at the sight. While some make it look almost effortless, it is by no means easy. As far as we’re concerned, the two undisputed Queens of Comedy in our little fandom are MERIDIAN and KJWRIT. Their unique brands of humor is peppered throughout each and every tale, making it impossible for us to choose just the one, or two, or even three of their rollicking stories. Take our word for it, all their stories are full of comedy gold, however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t more genuinely amusing stories out there for your reading pleasure! Alas, we are without our love/hate relationship with a certain show with no eighth season that poorly fed idle our hopes. An agile grace, a hint of fang, a contented purr, and a touch of fur… Wait, what fur? Yes, we’re talking felines, not vampires… well, there are some vamps still available below because while we like petting the kitties and will playfully endure the bites, we haven’t descended into full on bestiality here at the Directory. However, we do have a selection of some awesome stories that feature some magnificent cats and pussies (and, no; we’re not talking the babe ‘magnet’ violet-eyed, genie-trousers-wearing pansy that’s not even good enough to be a rug) as an integral part of the tale.
