The last time we looked at those brave souls who took on the impending doom known as Season 7 and preemptively sought to rewrite the inevitable wrongs that the last and final season promised. This time we’re taking a closer look at our favorite stories that took what that last season handed us and methodically set to rights the epic fuckery, using it as a point for launching an entirely restored and altered ending.
Second Chance by Alh1971
Eric visits Sookie on her deathbed. TB One-shot, with elements from SVM. E/S, rated T, ONE-SHOT
Season 7 left Eric and Sookie with a gap too wide to cross. Sookie, unwilling to embrace her supernatural self, hangs on to her illusions of a ‘normal life’, and Eric chooses to say ‘goodbye’ rather than have his heart destroyed once more. This was a most dismal ending for Eric and Sookie shippers… but what might they have done otherwise if given a second chance? In this little gem, Eric movingly reflects so poignantly upon their past choices while he sits with Sookie at the end of her life. Our couple is finally able to find closure after a lifetime of regrets, and, in that magical reconnection, one ray of hope emerges out of the ruins of their troubled past, a touching hope that might just grant them a second chance.
The angst oh the angst… it’s a miracle we still have fingernails left.
DECEPTION by Mistress Jessica
Ten years have passed since Bill Compton met his True Death. In those ten years, Eric Northman has become a business tycoon. New Blood has propelled him and his progeny, Pamela Swynford de Beaufort, into the billionaires’ club. To the public, they are the saviors of the human and vampire races. In private, Eric is once again the badass Viking vampire he was before he met Sookie Stackhouse.
One night, someone from the past comes asking for help. Will Eric help or will he let the hurt and anger he has carried for ten years get in the way? Eric will learn that not everything is as it seems. AU, E/S, -WIP-
A decade on and we meet an Eric who is harsher and far less humane than the vampire we once knew. Eric’s life is empty, unsatisfying, and he is slowly losing his joie de vivre, that is, until Willa and Jessica begrudgingly turn up at Fangtasia seeking Eric’s assistance. Sookie has seemingly vanished, and although Eric and Pam both deny their assistance at the outset, Eric is concerned enough to visit Bon Temps in order to learn the details surrounding her sudden disappearance. It is through reading her journals over the past ten years that Eric uncovers what he once perceived as truth was far from reality. As the story continues to evolve, through Eric we are witness to many of the life-altering events Sookie has been through during the last 10 years, ‘the time in between,’ all the ups and downs of her life lived without Eric with hints as to whom may have captured her. This WIP is unique, intriguing, and an emotional rollercoaster ride.
THE MOON by Meridian
Here’s my TB rewrite set starting the night of the Thanksgiving gathering in Sookie’s yard, which I guestimate to be approximately 4.5 years (“about 1 year later” + “3 years later” + “the next Thanksgiving” = 4.5 years to me) after Emo chose to goo himself. Things aren’t as fine and dandy as the fuck-ups at TB wanted to brainwash us into thinking they are (but Emo’s still definitely dead…). E/S, rated M, -WIP-
Come aboard Meridian airlines and let her fly you to “The Moon” for a jump in time into a not-too-distant future where the Rockwellian Thanksgiving postcard TB sent us is actually not a time of happiness for Sookie, even when seemingly surrounded by her Bon Temps ‘friends’ and ‘loving’ fiancé… Fear not! Meridian quickly addresses this sorry state of affairs via the intervention of one marvelously characterized Willa Burrell, Eric’s estranged progeny. After some minor angst, our favorite couple will soon be ready to face whatever challenges, pregnancy-related or not, the future may hold for them together… A uniquely satisfying read with TB Pam fittingly put in her place and one charming, original character in Sevrin whom we just can’t help warming up to, one single grunt at a time…
THE LONG ROAD HOME by Ali989969
This story picks up where True Blood’s sad and sorry finale left off… sort of. This is a yummy little mish-mash of True Blood canon with some SVM book canon to fill in some gaps and a little EricIzMine multiverse canon for fun and giggles because she was a genius and a sadly-missed Goddess of fanfiction. I look forward to getting thoughts! AU, E/S, rated M, -WIP-
Twenty years after those final scenes of True Blood, Eric and Pam are still riding high on the success of NuBlood, and find themselves returning to the US in order to pitch their new product to the FDA for distribution. When checking in with the local Washington DC Sheriff, they barely notice the pretty blonde pet curled up at his feet who in a few ways tickles something in their memories.
This story is completely unexpected in varying ways. Surprisingly, Eric and Sookie serve only as a vehicle to the story of Addie, a young fairy hybrid, and Lex, an Ancient sheriff. These two original characters are solidly written and provide the necessary movement, humor, sex appeal, and wit to a story that is essentially a heartbreakingly long road home. What’s home here? A house, a land, a heart. Ali989969’s comeback endeavor proves her still-present skill, writing through some real-life hurdles, and great chemistry between characters. While navigating through echoes of a past, we continually look forward to seeing this story unfold through its many twists and turns.
