Plagiarism

Greetings, all.

I’m sorry, I don’t have a new chapter for you all just yet. I am, however, in need of your assistance. It was brought to my attention earlier tonight that the smut from my story Forever in a Night has been copied and posted on ff.net by someone else.

Some of you will probably be familiar with the author No MA Allowed. She recently tried to get a number of stories pulled from ff.net for adult content. Now it seems she is stealing other people’s work.

If you could all go and report the story link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11642001/1/CAN-t-get-ENOUGH-of-that-VIKING-stuffas plagiarised, I would be grateful. Please do not leave any nasty messages to the author. By all means tell her she stole the story, but please do not insult or belittle her, as I believe that is the kind of attention she is craving, and we do not need to…

We Gotta Problem

ficlit78

Hello my best buds,

As some of you have already brought to my attention, we’ve got a slight problem over on FFN, specifically in the TB/SVM section.  Apparently, a sad little crusader has decided that it’s her/his job to clean up FFN of all the smuttiness therein.  On the face of it, I’d usually laugh my ass off.  FFN currently hosts tens of thousands of smutty stories, many of which are very dear to our hearts.

But, they’ve opened an account as of November 21st and have started naming names, with particular hatred aimed at me.  I don’t know if we’re dealing with a super-prude, or a Bible thumper, or just someone who has no talent of their own and tears down those that do, but no excuse is viable.

My worry is that if this person succeeds we’ll lose many of the wonderful stories that brought us here in…

Story Recs: Supercharged Sookie – Part II

Because we like our Sookie best when frying a certain Southern ‘gent’s’ ass…

-Supercharged Sookie Part II-

As we mentioned in Supercharged Sookie Part I, we had such a tough time narrowing down the choices, so we decided to keep them all and squish our beloved Epic Eric in between. Now, without further ado, please continue to enjoy the spoils of Supercharged Sookie in our Part II.

We at the Directory love a smart or strong Sookie, preferably both, and feel it should be the standard rather than the exception to the rule. The only thing that can top a smart and strong Sookie? The Supercharged Sookie, a woman after our own hearts who is fully aware of her own power and has no issue kicking some ass, vampire or otherwise. While we enjoy the journeys of Sookie growing into those powers, there is nothing quite like a Sookie who has them from the get go. The only issue we encountered? We were spoiled for choice, so in the end we decided there will be two story rec posts for our beloved heroine, and we only though it was fair if we sandwiched an Epic Eric in between.

Story Recs: Epic Eric

Because sometimes Eric can be that much MORE!

Because sometimes Eric can be just that little bit MORE!

-Epic Eric-

The man is already epic, you say? Yes, this is undoubtedly true, and when we decided to counterbalance our beloved Supercharged Sookies with some much needed Epic Ericness, we actually struggled to match the stories by the numbers because what exactly constitutes an Epic Eric? By our definition, it is an Eric with just that little bit extra that puts him well above the rest, making him that much more from the get go, and who are we to say no to more Eric?

Stories high in fantasy elements, often a rich Alternate Universe

Beholden by ElfChef

It’s hard being a telepathic barmaid but Sookie Stackhouse can’t complain. She has a nice life in her small town. It all goes up in smoke when a fairy blackmails her into marrying a vampire. A vampire that could care less who she is or what she feels. Watch their unlikely story unfold. This isn’t an easy love story but then again love and life seldom are. AU, E/S, rated M, -COMPLETE-

At the start of this tale, we are introduced to an Eric with a necessity to keep a tight control on himself and everything around him, one containing an anger that threatens to unleash at the slightest trigger. An anger that hints there is much more (and there certainly is) to this not-so-average vampire. In this constant state

From Fan Fiction to Original Fiction :

What It’s Really Like to Write Novels and Get Them Published

-Q&A-

Q: How did you deal with the rejection from professionals?

A: Rejections are the hardest and only certain part about submitting to publishers and agents. It’s like getting a bad review. I’ll be the first to admit a negative review ruins my day. I feel attacked when a reader tears my story apart. The difference is, this isn’t someone being petty about how ‘Your Eric isn’t in character!’ they’re telling you Continue reading

FROM FAN FICTION TO ORIGINAL FICTION:

WHAT IT’S REALLY LIKE TO WRITE NOVELS AND GET THEM PUBLISHED

PART II

AN OFFER FOR PUBLICATION DOESN’T MEAN THE WORK IS DONE…

With an acceptance letter and a promise to be published in hand the waiting ends and the work begins. Before I was offered my first contract, an acquisition editor from my publisher contacted me and asked me to resolve some of the problems. While I was inexperienced with active and passive verbs, punctuation use, and all the rest of the ‘trouble spots,’ she explained each and every one to me. We spent three weeks e-mailing each other, and she edited while I rewrote. I ended up rewriting four chapters. That’s more than ten thousand words right in the middle of my book. She said they were too ‘squicky,’ and while I didn’t agree, I rewrote anyway. Letting go of what I wanted was easier knowing a contract was around the corner. It was a test. If I was an author worth signing (and taking such a huge financial risk on), then I had to prove that I was willing to work hard and do whatever I could to get the manuscript the way they wanted it. Only after I completed the major fixes was I offered a contract, and all that work paid off.

From Fan Fiction to Original Fiction: What it’s really like to write novels and get them published- PART I

Welcome to our first Fangbangers Anonymous special feature courtesy of the wonderful My Secret O. In fan fiction the terms ‘writer’ and ‘author’ are often interchanged with little thought, but an author is a distinctly different thing. It indicates a writer is published and while we have many writers in fan fiction, we have few actual authors. my secret o is one of them, and with us she shared how with a lot of hard work, perseverance, and determination she came to be published and can rightfully call herself an author.

msbuffy is our resident beta at the directory, but she is, in fact, also a professional editor in real life and as well as working her magic on this, she interspersed a few tips of her own from the perspective of an editor.

This is a great resource for (aspiring) writers hoping to one day be published authors, but should also be a fun read for anyone who has ever wondered what it really takes to get published. -Enjoy!

From Fan Fiction to Original Fiction:

What it’s really like to write novels and get them published

Part I

It happens to the best of us. The moment one of your well-meaning readers tells you, “I love your writing so much! You should write original fiction!” Sure, you think, and then someone else tells you, maybe even a handful of people encourage you. That’s when you start taking them seriously. I’ve got lots of ideas. I can totally do this! So you start writing …because you love to write, and you write for you.

NOT AN EASY TRANSITION FROM FANFIC TO STRAIGHT FIC

All of your ideas pour out of your fingertips and into your computer. You start to think about characters and where they’re going to live …which presents a whole new problem. Instead of working with the same characters you’ve come to know and love, you have to create believable, likeable, quirky, and weird protagonists and research endlessly about where they live (just in case one of your future readers has ever been there). Location is one of the most important elements of your book, and you must get it right. Research is crucial. If you can’t visit the place in person, talk to someone who has and take notes. Lots and lots of notes.

Discover Seven new writers in the FA Directory

We have a lot to be excited about here at the Directory, not only are we just over a month old and happily thriving with your appreciation, we’ve welcomed seven(!) new members into the  Directory since the launch at the end of April. Please join us in welcoming to the FA Directory:

*vixenfae ->

It would be greatly appreciated by all these writers if you leave a comment on their profile page in  recognition of their work or just in acknowledgment of the joy of discovering a new writer. Special thanks to Alison A. for helping us find another retired writer (*).

When a story has an ending!

There’s more to be excited about, as far as we’re concerned… Writers know this feeling well; suddenly there it is, that final dot that denotes the end. Relief floods the system but then the remorse sets in, and a pang of pain hits with the knowledge that you are saying goodbye to some well-loved characters that have been ‘living’ inside you for months, if not years, and because of that, we as writers sometimes forget to celebrate that moment.

It is a wonderful achievement for a writer to make it to the end of their tale. We at the Directory feel the completion of a multi-chapter story is something definitely worth recognizing and to alert the fandom about, especially to readers who may have shied away from starting a new work-in-progress after coming away heartbroken one too many times when a story they loved went on an indefinite hiatus… Unfinished stories are part of life when reading fan fiction but it can also be a little frustrating… So here’s to all these (happy) endings!

Story Recs: On Duty

On Duty: because who in their right mind would say no to Eric in a uniform?

While we like our favorite Viking large and in charge, he becomes that much more magnetic when poured into a well-fitted uniform with shiny buttons, and not a crease in sight. When speaking of Eric in a tightly, tailored uniform we, of course, can’t not mention kjwrit’s Men In Uniform Series that stars Eric in all manner of uniformed garb, but don’t worry, dear readers, our recommendations are not an exclusive All Human fest, Vampire Eric cleans up just as well, and not to be left behind, our ever-intrepid telepath, Sookie, can don a white uniform and a matching cap with the same enthralling ease while holding out the sponge for Eric’s favorite bath… At your service!
